For several recent weeks I have been encountering problems running Java applications in Internet Explorer 10 after some Java update had been installed. The problems range from normal Java applets on web pages to Cisco ASDM not starting.
When I went to download the newest Java (today it is Java 7 Update 21) from www.java.com, although the download worked and installed fine (I am always installing both the x32 and 64-bit Javas), I was not even able to verify Java version with their web checker at: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre
It was telling me notoriously "The page you are viewing uses Java. More information on Java support is available from Microsoft website"
I was doing all the magic with Java control panel, disabled all its own as well as IE's security. But to no avail. Just nothing.
How to solve it?
Open the Programs and Features control panel, use the top-right search box to filter for Java and uninstall everything. Then just download and install it again.
It works like charm now!
